SYNOPSIS

Mia, a portuguese young student of painting, suggests her Californian teacher a goodbye trip, before his returning to the States – 3 days at Zambujeira.
The day before, last day of classes, Paul flashes back to the beginning of the semester and how Mia called his attention. Remembering the past he reviews his career has a painter turned into a routine.
The invitation to teach at Lisbon University raised a vague hope but customary and boring habits set again.
A rainy morning of March he finds Mia busy with a rain drop dripping in a linoleum carved leaf. She asks him to teach her painting water drops.
They stroll by ancient Lisbon, Alfama where Mia lives with her grandmother who she claims to be a good witch.
Paul’s routine is suddenly disrupted one rainy night by Mia’s appearance in his apartment, asking him to teach her to paint drops and declaring her love.
Disturbed he sends her away.
After a period of illness, Paul returns to classes and notices Mia’s absence. He finds her address at school’s office goes to her place and surrenders to her enchantment.
Arriving at Zambujeira they settle at “Monte D. Maria”. They walk by the village and at the beach Mia tells him about a local legend where abandoned women throw themselves into the sea.
Mia also gives herself to the great ocean and Paul sees no wrong or absurd in it.
That farewell puts him in an incontrollable desire to paint.
